It is not only a pilot test but also the first step towards the renewable sources based productions. The goal is that the entire Experimental Farm located in UNL’s Veterinary Sciences Campus would work exclusively by solar energy.
UNL’s Veterinary Sciences Faculty has in it’s campus an Experimental Farm specialized in laying hens. It is an educational programme in which students have a major active participation.
As a part of this educational process, the first step is related to production powered by renewable energy sources, in this case, solar energy. With this purpuse, the company Esperanza Renovable –through it’schief, José Aladio- installed solar panels and the necessary equipment. Furthermore, the brand new unit has the capacity of charging it’s battery and, at the same time, provide direct energy. When the sun comes down or the weather is cloudy, the machine takes energy from the battery and continues it’s cycle. The purpose is that the Experimental Farm would be able to produce it’s own energy and for it to be independent from the electric source.
The responsable profesor of Birds Production, Miguel Müller, claimed that “it is an interesting model in order to reduce in put costs and also to expand productive zones, as it can work in areas where electric energy can not reach. This last fact is a big help for small farmers”. Then, he highlited that “in the north of the province there is a lack of electric energy and it is very necessary for the production on cold months”.
On his behalf, the FVC’s Technology Transfer Director, Sebastián Palmero, thanked the company Esperanza Renovable for it’s good predisposition and support towards the Faculty: “Our Academic and Productive Unitrequires of thiskind of technology and this company offered all it’s materials and services. From no won, we will make a feasibility analysis in order to generate a devolution to the area, mostly intended to médium and small producers”.
Finally, FCV’s Dean, Humberto Occhi, emphasized the roles of both, the Faculty and the University, to “think, design and put on practice the productive models on the region and nearby areas, as North Santa Fe, where electric energy is crucial for productive processes”.
